A Couple Celebrates 70 Years Of Marriage With A Jaw-Dropping Photoshoot
Ah! The scent of the true love of a couple! At least that’s what the air smelled like for photographer Lara Carter who was out capturing a couple’s very special day! What’s the first thing you remember to carry when you’re attending special functions? Apart from the necessary medicine of course, I’m sure we all remember to take our phones so we can capture those much-needed selfies and photos! Sadly for highschool sweethearts Ferris and Margaret Romaire, that wasn’t the case because phones with cameras were only introduced in May 1999.
In November 2016, the Romaires’ celebrated 70 years of wedded bliss. Ferris had returned from serving in World War II just six months before getting married to his highschool sweetheart Margaret on the 24th of November 1946. The couple’s wedding, which was a rather simple affair, lasted only 15 minutes and their reception was held in Margaret’s parents’ backyard where everyone enjoyed cake and drinks. The only drawback was that the couple had no photos to commemorate their special day. Back then, the couple didn’t have a marriage photographer and no one had cameras on hand to capture their special day in 1946.
And so to mark the couple’s 70th wedding anniversary, the Romaire’s granddaughter, Amanda Kleckley, decided to gift her grandparents the memories they never had – wedding photos! She requested photographer Lara Carter to help with the couple’s special wedding photoshoot that took place in Pearland, Texas on the 12th of October 2016. Margaret, who is now 92-years-old, wore a lavender gown and a wedding veil and held a lovely bouquet in some of the wedding photos while 93-year-old Ferris wore a tux – ready to make some much-needed wedding memories. The happy couple was all smiles as they embraced and kissed each other, re-enacting some special moments from their wedding 70 years ago!
When asked what the secret to their loving marriage was, the couple credited their own parents – Margaret’s parents were married for 64 years while Ferris’s parents were married for 65 years! According to Ferris, the key to a lasting marriage is to give each other the space they require and to respect one another. He also added that one must admit when they’re wrong – except according to him, Margaret is never wrong! Margaret, on the other hand, added that one must apologize when they’re wrong, except her husband Ferris had a tough time saying sorry! No doubt, the secret to their marriage was their sense of humor and the love they had for each other.
Ferris and Margaret still live in Morgan City, Louisiana, in the same house they built soon after their marriage to support a growing family. And while they don’t own a fortune, they are rich in values, love of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The Romaires, who have four children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, believe that the secret to their long-loving marriage is their strong faith in God.
