Every human on earth especially many a woman has received calls and texts from wrong numbers, but how many times do those texts and calls literally change people’s lives? Probably never. Let’s face it, most of the time we choose to ignore to respond when we realize it’s a wrong number. But was not Tony Wood. One fine morning Wood, who was home with his kids, received an unusual message from a woman called Syd asking for an opinion on her formal dress.
Wood had never met Syd, but instead of ignoring the message, he showed it to his children who all thought she looked absolutely gorgeous and healthy in the dress the woman had selected. Why? Chances are Syd was going to attend an important function and needed an honest opinion, thought Wood. He snapped a picture of his five children giving two thumbs up and sent their opinions to Syd, but never heard back from her.
A couple of weeks later Wood saw the text he sent to Syd, along with the picture of his five children circulating on Twitter! Apparently, Syd’s friend, Mandi Miller, posted the screenshots of the text message on Twitter and it quickly went viral, thereby catching Wood’s attention. Wood was thrilled to see his children online and introduced himself to Mandi. He told her about how his second youngest son Kaizler wasn’t in the picture because he was with his mom, Rachel, at the chemo clinic, being treated for Leukemia after being diagnosed in 2015.
This information was enough for people to come together and help Wood and his family in the most unimaginable way. It all started when a stranger on Twitter, who goes by the name ‘illuminaughty’, joined the ‘Prayers for Kaizler’ Facebook group and set up a GoFundMe page to help the family deal with Kaizler’s medical costs.
The GoFundMe page took the internet by storm. Prayers, positive vibes and donations started coming in from total strangers and soon the Woods’ had more than $50,000 at their disposal for Kaizler’s treatment. Tears of joy filled their eyes as they quickly exceeded their goal of $10,000 for their son’s treatment. The Wood family was quick to appreciate and thank everyone for the support they had provided and to-date provide regular updates about Kaizler and his treatment on their Facebook group.
One wrong number text helped change this little boy’s life, and one honest response from Wood is all it took for people to come together and help the family in their time of need.
