According to Russian Fur Union, in 2017 fur coats worth $2.3 billion were sold in Russia’s legal and black market. Here’s another fact – according to a BBC documentary titled “This World: Inside the Billionaire’s Wardrobe,” some even go as far as buying bedspreads and underwear made from pure sable fur. Yes, we’re speechless too. Back to our article then, shall we? It wasn’t long before Zhenya decided to purchase Umora from the Russian farm in order to save her from being slaughtered. Despite being a wild animal, Umora, who was captive her entire life, was not equipped for a life in the wild.
Zhenya then decided to keep Umora as her pet but discourages everyone from keeping wild animals as pets. It’s important to understand that the only reason Zhenya decided to keep Umora as a pet was because the poor sable didn’t know what it was like to live as a wild animal in the wild. Living with Umora hasn’t been easy for Zhenya, but she’s doing everything she can to keep her pet happy. Being a wild animal at heart, Umora can be extremely anxious at times because of her traumatic experiences at the fur farm, but Zhenya treats her with love and patience and the two are now inseparable!
While we’re happy that Umora was rescued from the blades, unfortunately, there are many like Umora who end up as luxury status items.
