Woman Gives Boyfriend An Out After Diagnosis, But He Had Other Plans
No matter how much this woman loved her boyfriend, she was ready to give him an out, to save him the trouble of being beside her through her hard times. This story will bring tears to your eyes, but it’ll also teach you the meaning of true love, honor, and respect. Meet Jillian Hanson and her boyfriend Max Allegretti.
The two met each other in college, during their senior years. While Hanson was busy making friends and trying to join a dodgeball team, her heart skipped a beat when she saw Allegretti. Allegretti, on the other hand, couldn’t resist Hanson’s charm and so they exchanged phone numbers and soon became best friends. After graduation, when Hanson moved away, she lost touch with Allegretti for a few years, but then she moved back to New Jersey, where they first met.
As soon as she was back, she called him to find out if he was willing to catch up and true love began to blossom between the two. In 2017, at the age of 25, Hanson was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Seeing that the road ahead would be tough and traumatic, she willingly gave Allegretti an out, to spare him the trouble, doubt, and confusion. However, Allegretti wasn’t interested in an out.
The woman had a polite discussion with her boyfriend, telling him that it was okay if he wanted to leave, especially since neither of them knew what to expect. However, Allegretti disregarded everything and for two straight years of chemotherapy, he remained by her side, reassuring her that everything would work out in the end. With a mastectomy, 16 rounds of chemotherapy for half a year, plastic surgery, and 25 rounds of radiation for a little over a month, Hanson was slowly journeying back to health.
The 28th of February 2018 marked the last day of chemotherapy at the Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital, and Allegretti knew exactly how to make it more special – by asking Hanson to marry him in front of their family, friends, and nurses! With all that they had been through, they knew that planning a wedding would be a challenge. They didn’t know where to start. As it turns out, when LLG Events heard their story, they decided they’d be gifting them a pro-bono wedding!
Lauren Grech, a wedding planner and the founder of LLG Events, decided to gift the couple their full-service luxury wedding planning that typically sells for $30,000! Not only did Grech offer them a pro-bono wedding, but Palermo also delivered a wedding cake, Sterling Ballroom hosted their ceremony, Susan Shek offered to be their photographer and Kenneth Winston gave Hanson her dream wedding dress!
On October 18, 2019, the college sweethearts exchanged their vows in Tinton Falls, surrounded by family and friends. A month later, the couple still couldn’t believe how everything truly fell in place and how it couldn’t have been more perfect. Today, the two continue to live in New Jersey, and although Hanson is perfectly fine, Allegretti continues to remind her how beautiful she is and how he’d always be by her side… through thick and thin, in sickness and in health. What a beautiful happily ever after!
