Achieving pregnancy at a certain age is such a debatable topic, really. People from all walks of life have different opinions as to when a woman should plan to have babies, trust me, I’ve personally been there. Some elders have rules set in stone for young women and often tell married couples that “their time is ticking” when they take too long to plan for babies. Yes, most women dream of achieving a risk-free pregnancy and giving birth to cute healthy babies, but conceiving shouldn’t be regarded as a ticking timebomb. Even today people think that achieving pregnancy after 35 would come with a lot of risks, but how far is that true?
We can’t disagree with the fact that some studies have stated it’s always best for a woman to conceive before turning 35, but here’s some good news for those who want to wait it out – recent research states that getting pregnant after 35 is actually quite beneficial! What’s the first thing young women in relationships think of? Career. They’re constantly juggling between their personal and professional lives. Women who conceive after 35 have already tackled those aspects of their lives i.e. they’re already settled in their relationship and have worked out their career plans.

Pregnancy isn’t naturally a ticking timebomb. However, achieving pregnancy after 35 does come with its own nuts and bolts. For example, you can’t deny the fact that complications like genetic disorders, gestational diabetes, premature delivery and the risk of miscarriages rise dramatically over time. Apart from a plethora of things that can go wrong in conceiving after 35, the main reason why conceiving after 35 is considered a ticking timebomb is because of the limited number of eggs available in a woman’s ovaries.
Not only do these eggs diminish over time, but the quality of the remaining eggs decreases too – a condition called Diminished Ovarian Reserve. However this doesn’t necessarily mean that becoming pregnant is impossible, but achieving pregnancy does become a difficult process. And because achieving pregnancy becomes a difficult process women yearning to have babies do tend to suffer from their very own, and quite personal, emotional roller coaster ride. So what’s the solution for women not wanting to rush into motherhood? Two words – egg freezing.
According to experts, the key to getting pregnant later in life is to freeze your eggs before you turn 35. A young woman has an abundant supply of healthy eggs, and so when they freeze their eggs before they turn 35, they’ll be able to use those eggs to achieve a healthy pregnancy after 35. But then, what about the other pregnancy complications that arise after you turn 35? Well, according to Dr. Rebecca Starck, just like young moms-to-be, pregnant women over 35 can enjoy low-risk pregnancies if they follow healthy lifestyles. Remember I mentioned earlier that getting pregnant after 35 is actually quite beneficial? Research conducted in 2016 concluded that women who have babies after 35 have better brain health and memory and live longer than younger moms!
